ABOUT SBG | DESIGN PHILOSOPHY | GAME AVAILABILITY | THE 500

I make games to create. From the way a game looks, to the way it plays, to the smallest, seemingly insignificant text wording; everything is carefully crafted. A physical game that’s available for sale, and available for you to purchase and play, is the end result of that process.

That does not mean you’re going to like the games I publish, or that there aren’t typos every once in a while. My games aren't for everyone. That's not an inclusivity thing. My games tend to be small, text heavy, and use mechanics you may be familiar with in unfamiliar ways. My rules are terse.

"I’ve said before that there are a few designers whose work feels like a gift from some dimension where board games developed along a parallel but alien track. John Clowdus is one such designer. Even when I don’t love one of his games, I’m glad to have experienced it, if only for a glimpse into what’s possible when a designer rejects traditional wisdom." - Dan Thurot | spacebiff.com

I try my best to under-promise and over-deliver, but if you’re expecting a super polished game similar to what you’d receive from a bigger publisher, or featuring a specific type of rule book presentation; you might be let down. And that’s ok!  But, if you like one of my games, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll like others as well.

Most of my design focus is on two player, small form card games (almost always just a deck of 54 cards). With the variety of density, settings, and mechanics available; there’s a lot to choose from! Whether you like plants, streamlined set collection games, odd alien worlds, or text heavy head to head games; I aim for one of my games to be among your favorite two player games. I do design and publish games at different player counts every once and a while, and occasionally, games that are more than just cards.

I have not, and will not, pay for content (video or otherwise) for any of my games. If you see this as a negative, my games may not be for you.
